The GPS or Global Positioning System is a very useful tool today in determining the location of vehicles, valuables, children, trucks and others. The GPS device is installed to a cell phone network server in order to allow the monitoring the real time movement of a number of vehicles.

To install your GPS tracking system in your phone or vehicle, follow these series of steps.

Step 1. Choose what kind of tracking device you are going to use for your system namely the battery powered or vehicle powered ones. Installing the device using a battery power source is easier because you do not need to connect the tracking device to the car's power source. In addition, choosing a battery powered device will allow you to place it anywhere in the vehicle. The only downside is you have to monitor the battery life and change it regularly.

Step 2. After choosing the device, check your SIM card and make sure that it is not secured by a PIN number. Insert the SIM card into the tracking device.

Step 3. Connect the tracking device to the car's power source if you are using a vehicle powered device. If you are using a battery powered system, insert the batteries and switch the system on.

Step 4. Decide on what part of the vehicle or cell phone you will put your GPS device. Make sure that you will install it on a part which it is least likely to be found.

Step 5. Get your instruction manual and set your SIM to be able to send data.

Step 6. Read about the GPS tracking software to be used for the device. Take note that the software varies depending on the system's manufacturer so read the instructions very carefully.

Step 7. Install the software on your personal computer or laptop.

Step 8. Ensure that you have a GSM modem in order to link the GPS tracking device in your car and your computer.

Step 9. After successful installation of the software, follow the steps in your instruction manual to allow communication between your cell phone and vehicle tracking device.
